Baghdad Calling (mobile phone photographs and audiotrack) and Why Mister Why, (both 2003/04): ‘Why Mister, Why’, was an bitter criticism on the American occupation. When, in 2005, Iraq practically became off limits to foreigners, Van Kesteren initiated ‘Baghdad Calling’, collecting photos Iraqis had shot on their cell phones and sent abroad. He also recorded testimonies of Iraqis about their daily life and struggle.
