Gemak, Kunst Politiek Debat
Als het politieke en democratische hart van Nederland en internationale stad van recht en vrede, is Den Haag d plek voor een centrum waar kunst, actualiteit en debat elkaar treffen. Het Gemeentemuseum Den Haag en de Vrije Academie, Werkplaats voor Beeldende Kunsten, hebben de handen ineengeslagen om dit te ontwikkelen, een plek waar door middel van beeld en debat actuele thema's worden behandeld: Gemak.
In Gemak zal vooral de verbinding centraal staan tussen niet-westerse en westerse kunst; Gemak gaat over de verschillende perspectieven die kunstenaars, maar ook wetenschappers, politici en opiniemakers hebben op hedendaagse gebeurtenissen, de huidige maatschappij en politieke en sociale verhoudingen. Dit komt niet alleen in de gekozen kunstwerken naar voren, maar ook in de debatten en activiteiten die worden georganiseerd. Gemak zal zoveel mogelijk verschillende en soms verrassende geluiden laten horen; om het debat te verlevendigen en nieuwe, onverwachte impulsen daaraan te geven
Gemak, Art - Politics - Debate
As the heart of politics and democracy in the Netherlands and the international city of peace and justice, The Hague is the best possible place for a combined platform for art, current affairs and debate. The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and the Vrije Academie workplace for the visual arts have joined forces to set up a venue where the hot topics of the day can be addressed by means of both visual images and debate: this is Gemak.
A key focus of Gemak is the link between non-Western and Western art; Gemak is all about the different ways in which artists, academics, politicians and opinion-makers view current events, contemporary society, and political and social relations within it. This is reflected not just in the selected works of art, but also in the debates and activities that are organised at the centre. Gemak aims to facilitate the expression of the widest possible range of different and sometimes surprising views, in order to enliven the debate and move it in new and perhaps unexpected directions.
